Apple's New Podcast Fails To Deliver
Original Source: Podcasting News

Apple has published a new podcast, Learn to Podcast, that explains how to podcast with Apple tools.

The podcast is a good introduction to a Mac- and iLife-centric approach to podcasting. Unfortunately, Apple also uses the podcast to promote proprietary formats and to encourage podcasters to create podcasts that will only work on Apple devices.

Apple's feed for the podcast also fails to validate.

Podcasters that use the iLife suite to create podcasts may also want to learn about podcasting standards so that they ensure that their podcasts will be usable by as wide an audience as possible.

There are many resources available:

  New Approach to Podcast Ads
Information from BusinessWire

Kiptronic Announces Dynamic Ad Network for Podcasting; New Approach to Ad Insertion Heralds New Era for Podcasters; Partnership with Liberated Syndication to Drive Network Expansion

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2006--Kiptronic, a leading ad network for the podcasting industry, today announced the introduction of the Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace. The Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace represents a dynamic new way for podcasters to connect with advertisers in an open marketplace.

Kiptronic's patent pending ad insertion technology allows the podcasting community to add sponsorships to their content at their pace while providing advertisers with a central exchange where they can connect with the topical podcasts they're interested in. The Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace provides an open approach to developing sponsorship programs that allows the podcaster to stay in control of their content and what type of advertising runs on their podcasts.

Kiptronic's automated insertion technology allows ads to be inserted into podcasts dynamically, on-the-fly, at the point of download, freeing the podcaster from many of the labor-intensive tasks associated with current sponsorship approaches. Among the many features of the Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace:

-- Flexibility to manage large ad campaigns: Using the Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace, a podcaster can manage a variety of sponsorships with multiple advertisers. Advertisers, in turn, can launch a variety of ads as a campaign progresses.

-- Geographic targeting: The Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace allows an advertiser to select the appropriate metro areas and podcasts for their message, obviating the need to strike multiple deals in multiple cities.

-- Spoken word endorsements: Through the Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace, podcasters and advertisers can develop a variety of sponsorship approaches. The Kiptronic system allows an advertiser to approve of the spoken word endorsements they find best represent their message.

"Podcasting has come a long way in a short time, but with innovative approaches to sponsorships, it can go farther," said Jonathan Cobb, founder and chief executive. "Our unique insertion technology allows the podcaster and advertiser to develop sponsorship programs at their pace, in an open environment. Podcasters retain control of their content while advertisers can connect with the targeted programming they're looking for."

Initial partner

Kiptronic today also announced a wide-ranging partnership with Liberated Syndication, a premiere media distribution service. Kiptronic will serve as the sponsorship network engine for the thousands of podcasters who use Liberated Syndication for podcast hosting and related services.

"Liberated Syndication is pleased to be partnering with Kiptronic to deliver sponsorship opportunities to our 2600 podcaster customers," said David Wildman Mansueto of Libsyn. "With a few clicks of a mouse, Libsyn podcasters can connect with appropriate sponsors, form a trusted relationship, and strike deals at their own pace though the Libsyn-Kiptronic developed program. We have forged a great working relationship with the Kiptronic team as we all share similar views and goals for an open and fair market place for the new era of media delivery."

Liberated Syndication can be found at www.libsyn.com.

Acoustica, IODA, IndieFeed and the Radio Memories Network sign on

Kiptronic today also announced that top-tier podcasters IndieFeed and Radio Memories Network, and advertisers Acoustica, an audio and music recording software company, and the Independent Online Distribution Alliance have joined the Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace.

"Given our wide-ranging podcasting content, a partner like the Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace will be key for us going forward as we build a stable of appropriate advertisers such as Acoustica," said podcaster Dennis Humphrey. "We need to be able to deliver the right sponsors to the right audience and Kiptronic's flexible, open approach allows us to do that while we retain control of our content."

The Radio Memories Network is currently sponsorships from Acoustica using the Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace through March 1st, 2006.

"Acoustica is pleased to be an initial sponsor of the Radio Memories Network through the Kiptronic Podcast Marketplace," said Dave Raimondo, director of sales and business development for Acoustica.   Ads for Podcasting by Podtrac
Podtrac has launched an on-line advertising auction to determine ad rates for the podcasting market. While Podtrac might be first-to-market, Google may have plans for this space too.

Advertising positions for three top-ranked iTunes podcasts will be auctioned by Podtrac. They include a leading technology podcast, This Week in Technology, and leading entertainment podcasts MuggleCast and Josh & Japan. The online auction will end on March 31, 2006.

Podtrac may have pushed a model for podcast advertising, but Google's acquisition of dMarc Broadcasting could point to an interest in the market, InformationWeek reports. "I doubt Google is getting into radio advertising," Tim Bourquin, chief executive officer at TNC New Media, the creator of the Podcast & Portable Media Expo. "I would bet they will use this technology to somehow deliver podcast advertising."

  Podcast Magazine
Podcasting comes into it's own with it's very own Magazine!

With a Tag line of "We're Like Maxim, Only Different" they are setting themselves up as an edgy, insiders type publication. They claim to have dedicated it solely to serving podcasters with extensive editorial coverage about all things podcasting.

Starting with the first May/June issue, ID3 Podcast Magazine will be delivered bimonthly to subscribers in four formats – online, electronic (PDF), podcast, and/or print. Yes, print! It’s about time podcasters have a full-color print magazine they can call their own – a magazine that packages all the excitement and fascination we’ve discovered in podcasting. . .

I assume it is a paid subscription, but it does not say anything about price on their site yet (build the hype... THEN hit them with the $$)

It is a great idea, every subculture needs their own magazine and now Podcast Creators the English-World over have one to call their own... ID3 magazine.

Some More Info from their site:

ID3 Podcast Magazine, named after the data tag embedded in all podcasts, is an international trade magazine dedicated to serving podcasters with extensive editorial coverage about all things podcasting. Starting with the first May/June 2006 issue, a full-color print edition of ID3 Podcast Magazine will be delivered bimonthly.

In addition to the print edition, subscribers will also gain access to online, electronic (PDF) and podcast editions. The podcast edition will feature content from the proverbial cutting-room floor, including full-length interviews, outtakes, behind-the-scenes magazine discussions, etc.

Prior to our premier May/June issue arriving in mailboxes and between issues, we will supply our subscribers with behind-the-scenes podcasts, exclusive articles, interviews and more.

Inside the pages of ID3 Podcast Magazine, subscribers will find feature stories, trend articles, podcast profiles, tips and tricks, podcaster Q&As, podcast reviews, equipment and software reviews, industry lists, news analysis, sector updates, reader polls, podcast excerpts, business solutions, trend stories, expert commentary and much more.

The magazine was the brainchild of seasoned podcast host and producer Kris Smith and marketing professional Todd Andrlik, who serve as the magazine’s co-editors in chief. The magazine and its content are supported by an editorial board of podcast pioneers from around the world.

  Volkswagen Launches Marketing Podcasts
Volkswagen is claiming its Detroit motor show podcasting marketing campaign is unique.

The programme gives internet visitors a look at the automaker’s newest cars and access to a ‘candid conversation’ with its top brand chief. Additional ‘Detroit flavour’ includes clips from local musicians.

Volkswagen said it created the numerous podcasts, available on its main North American website, to create a ‘buzz’ about new 2006 and 2007 models, such as the GTI sports hatchback, and give outsiders a taste of Detroit, home to the best-know motor show in the US.

Local radio personality Ann Delisi voices introductions to the podcasts and conducts interviews with enthusiasts and auto industry journalists.

Featured interviews include an in-depth conversation with new VW brand chief Wolfgang Bernhard and other executives.

"This series of podcasts gives our customers the variety of content they are asking us to provide," said VW of America media and interactive marketing head Tesa Aragones.

Detroit area VW owners also took part in a ‘ride and drive’ programme that was followed by driver interviews to capture first impressions of the new GTI.

In total Volkswagen has created 16 podcasts around the show.

Subscribers to the music podcasts receive a new podcast featuring the artist of the day via an RSS feed -- every day of the motor show, which opened to the public on Saturday (14 January).

For those outside Detroit, Volkswagen has provided vehicle "walkaround" podcasts of the 2006 GTI and 2007 Passat wagon. These podcasts offer listeners an in-depth, technical look at the new vehicles and tempt them to see the cars in person.

Volkswagen worked with Quill Communications of Royal Oak, Michigan, and digital marketing partner Proxicom to make the podcasts.

  More iPod Clothing Compatibility
Los Angeles, California fashion firm Kenpo Inc. recently announced their own iPod integration which comes just shortly after Levi's announced their iPod integrated jeans.

Kenpo's iPod-integrated jacket uses a patented fabric, ElekTex, which is composed of 5 layers of electrically conductive material to transform your jacket into a touchpad.

The jacket features a 5-button switch that allows you to Play/Pause, Skip Forward, Skip Back, and turn the volume up and down. Additionally, the jacket is self-powered and requires no batteries to operate.

Our Take:
It doesn't look like the trend of iPod integration into our everyday like is slowing down at all. If anything it may still have to hit its peak.

This integration seems more useful than not. The iPod Levi's freaked us out a little, not going to lie. Hey, maybe if Levi's had this fabric as an option they could have integrated it onto the outside of a pocket or something.

All-in-all, this product should be on the gift list for any iPod enthusiast. Number one, the integration is sweet and simple. Secondly, and more importantly, the jacket actually looks pretty cool.
