Citizenship Guarantees Free iPod
Patrick Cooper, the head of applications and data services with the Department of Trade and Industry in the UK, made a tongue-in-cheek suggestion to solve the UK's identity card issues, Tuesday during a technology event hosted by Adobe.
Following an elaborate online fraud sceme that removed over 30 million pounds from the pockets of the UK government, there have been plans to institute a national ID card, with a PIN or password system to dramatically increase security.
Cooper suggests that issuing iPods, retailing for around 139 pounds, which contain a digital certificate would be a more cost-effective option than the ID card sceme which could cost as much as 500 pounds each to implement.
Our Take:Bravo! We can only hope that every country takes this into consideration.... For the security thing, of course. Anyone know what it takes to become a British citizen, other than being able to drink 5 pints of Guiness before noon? Mmmmmmm, that's almost worth the citizenship right there.
That's just how it is,

Sermons on your iPod
Vicars are putting sermons on the internet so parishioners can listen to them on their iPods.
Users subscribe to an internet service allowing them to download the sermons.
According to the Mirror Rev Shannon Ledbetter of St Mary's church, Knowsley, Merseyside said: "For the elderly and housebound this is fantastic, all you need to do is fix them up with an iPod and they're good to go.
"For the young also, there is so much information there, which can help to answer their questions about their faith."
Steve Evans, of Bridge Chapel Christian church in Liverpool, said: "Large numbers of new people are coming down and joining simply because of the downloads and podcasts.
"All our congregation has to do is subscribe to the service and every time they plug their mp3 player in, the updates will automatically be transferred."
However, in his first Christmas message Pope Benedict warned against technology, saying people risked ending up in "spiritual barrenness".

Plugged In: Apple makes podcasts easier
By Clint Swett -- Bee Staff Writer
Published 2:15 am PST Thursday, January 12, 2006
Story appeared in Business section,
Page D2Lost amid the buzz over the new Intel-powered Apple products at Macworld on Tuesday were several intriguing software updates and a few new gadget tweaks from Apple.
On the software side, Apple chairman Steve Jobs showed off a new application that makes it simpler to produce a podcast. Rolled into the Garage Band music-authoring program of the iLife software suite, the podcast software allows users to easily record their voices, drop in music tracks and then post the podcasts on .Mac - a subscription Web site run by Apple.
Users can include other participants in the podcast using Apple's online chat software.
Analysts generally were impressed with the new software, saying it greatly simplifies the activities that a growing number of computers users undertake.
Apple also announced an FM radio receiver for its iPod, addressing competition from other digital music players that have FM tuners integrated into their design.
Called the iPod Radio Remote, the $49 device plugs into the docking port in the music player via a cord. It combines an FM tuner and buttons like those found on the front of the iPod shuffle, allowing users to control their iPod even if it's stowed in a pocket or backpack. The device works with the nano and the iPod with video.
However, unlike some other digital music players, it doesn't record radio broadcasts directly to the iPod.
Other Interesting Apple News:Real chipheads may have been amused that Apple's announcement of accelerated use of Intel microprocessors had pushed Apple's stock price to a close of $80.86 on Tuesday.
The 8086 was the numerical designation Intel gave a new microprocessor that was first introduced in 1978.
It was the first in the line of x86 processors that included the Pentium and became the brains of hundreds of millions of personal computers.

Levi's new RedWire DLX Jeans, which will debut in the fall of 2006 , are built with an iPod docking cradle, joystick and headphones. The design will be available in styles for both men and women, which will be compatible with most iPod models.
The jeans will be made up of a joystick which is positioned in the watch pocket, a cradle in the side pocket, designed to reduce the bulge while carrying an ipod, and retractable headphones. Oh, and don't worry, the jeans are machine washable, phew, so there will not be 42 million smelly pairs of jeans floating around out there, minus the ones sitting in that pile in the corner of your room. Just remember to remove your iPod before washing! Jeans, washable. IPods, not washable.

UK Educators Turn To The Power Of Podcasting
BETT 2006, the world's leading educational information and communications technology event, will commence tomorrow (January 11th) and it is expected that podcasting will be a major subject of conversation.
Highlighting the podcasting hoopla will be
Teachers' TV, who plans to expand their programming to include podcasting as an option for viewing their programming. Teachers will be able to subscribe to the educational news network and watch over 700 shows via their iPod or compatible digital media player.
The announcement by Teachers' TV should open a door to the future of the educational process, stopping teachers from confiscating iPods and, instead, realizing the potential for this technology and effectively implementing it into their lessons.
Changing Tunes On The iPod Gets Easier
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, addressed a large crowd at the annual Macworld conference today where he released the the holiday numbers for the iPod, which topped financial estimates of approximately 9 million units, selling 14 million, for a total of 42 million units sold to date. Additionally, Jobs indicated that their popular music download service, iTunes, has sold over 850 million songs to date.
While these numbers were both impressive and staggering, the oddest announcement by far was for the iPod Radio Remote. the iPod Radio Remote allows you to skip tracks or adjust the volume of your iPod without having to remove it from your pocket.... Or move a muscle as we like to think of it. This is exactly what we've been waiting for, the remote that has been missing from our collection, we almost don't need to leave our homes now. Just remember, the whole "excuse" for buying that iPod in the first place was so you could listen to music while you get some exercise, EXERCISE. Just keep it up.
That's right. You can think of us as your iPod motivational speakers. Email us at
podcastempire@gmail.com if you want to feature your iPod weight-loss story. Enter iPod Weight Loss Story in the subject.

Crack the Bubbly!
How long have you been on the Internet?
How long have you know about the Net?
Personally, I first caught wind of this futuristic Online world in 1993. At that time I was still plugging away on the BBS scene (Google BBS for more info :) ) and had no possible access to the Internet at that time.
Fortunately, late in 2003 I moved away to University which was a little ahead of the public school system and years ahead of the public. It took less than a month and I was hooked. It didn't even occur to me that the Internet may be even cooler if there were graphics... or if pages loaded in less than 2 or 3 minutes... because I WAS ONLINE!
I was connected to a Global community... - SNAP - just like that!
I kicked up my Pine Mail Text email browser 5 times a day, just because it was cool! I spent hours stumbling around clumsy webrings that I had no interest in, just because I could!
We grew savvy quickly back then (actually I think this is one of the footprints that the Internet has left on us all - once online, we all grow savvy more quickly!) and jumped on the new technological bandwagons as they came along; being among the first to open a Free Geocities webpage and learning HTML (everything was coded by hand!), joining ICQ, and eventually cheering when Google came around and revolutionized the way we could quickly access information.
Now hear we are in 2006. This year marks the 15th Birthday of the World Wide Web. 15 years! Most people I know have been online for less than 5, but for some of us, 15 years has ingrained the Internet so deeply into our daily lives, that we would be lost without it.
As the Internet approaches its 20's, Blogs and Podcasts and wide array of offline technologies has made the Web approachable, friendly, informative and indispensible.
So take a minute, sit back, and think about the impact the three letters, WWW, has had in your life over the past 5, 10 or 15 years, and tip your glasses to Tim Berners-Lee the next time you are sitting around with friends; and thank him for the convenience he has brought to your lives!

iPod Automobiles to Sweep the Nation
During the North American International Auto Show, yesterday, Chrysler made the announcement that every podcast enthusiast has been waiting for.... iPod Integration.
Chrysler's iPod Integration Kits will be available, as an option, for over 3 million Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge automobiles starting in the spring. The integration kit will retail for around $175 (plus installation costs) and will come with a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty, which seems to be the standard for automobile electrical systems.
Our Take:Well I think it goes without saying that this will not be one of the impulse iPod purchases. If it is...Welll, good for you I guess. Obviously upgrading to a 2006 car that supports your iPod isn't going to be an option for most, but if you're in the market and absolutely must relieve those anxious moments in your car without your iPod, it could be a point for consideration. Of course, if this is what your purchase decision is solely based on, you may have a problem.
