BBC's Podcast Trial Passes with Flying Colors!!
Well, the BBC's seven week podcast trial has come and gone and guess what?

They learned what we already knew!! (typical)

"These figures illustrate the public's appetite for radio on demand,' said Simon Nelson, controller of BBC Radio and Music Interactive. 'We're delighted to offer new ways of listening that complement other, increasingly popular technologies like DAB digital radio and digital television."

Okay, ok... I won't be hard on the Brits, I am just happy that their trial ran successfully. How successfully you ask?

"Bragg's In Our Time was downloaded on average 30,000 times each week. Total downloads exceeded 100,000 per week."

Score one point for Podcast Lovers everywhere...

Hopefully the BBC will take this knowledge and leap into the Podcasting world whole-heartedly!

  Advertising Anyone?
This is something that may be of interest to some of our Podcast producers...

Advertising weekis coming up in New York and Infinity Broadcasting will be podcasting select conferences, key-note speeches, and panels, allowing you to listen in on what some of the biggest and brightest names in Advertising have to say at this years event.

The Official Site!

And now for something completely different...

  Nintendo Going to Podcast?
You heard it here first... well okay, probably not... because Carl Franklin - the .net Wonk - actually let the world know the day before the podcast was actually create...

But anyway, you heard it here nearly first... Nintendo Releases it's first every Podcast (MP3 anyway!), recorded at the Nintendo World Store at Rockefeller Plaza.

Carl:

"I can't guarantee anything, but it looks like this is the first of a whole series of podcasts that Pwop is going to do for Nintendo. "

Remember, you almost heard it here first!

  Discussing the future of Podcasting
This is a double bill!

First, Duke University is going to be holding their very first podcasting symposium shortly. According to them it is the first ever, and since I can't think of another, I won't argue with them:

"Duke University is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the first-ever academic symposium on podcasting from September 27-28 of this year. The two-day event will feature a hands-on podcasting workshop, as well as panel discussions of the economic/business, legal, political, journalistic, and cultural impacts of podcasting by bringing together prominent members of the podcasting community with policymakers, scholars, and media experts."

We have high hopes for this event and suggest everyone who can make it do so! We understand that it is open to the public.

The second billing (but of no less interest) in this post is the guest speaker at said symposium.

Mistermarc and DigitalBill are going to the Carolinas. The Wizards of Technology, who put out a good tech podcast that we have been listening to for a while now, have been recognized as leaders in this still-new medium and have been invited to Duke's symposium as guest speakers.

  Here we go!
Welcome!

It's been a little while since our last post, but things are really ramping up here at PodCast Empire.

Our Directory is almost ready to go.

We would like to thank our friends at www.shave5strokes.com for some design suggestions! If you are a golfer you check the site out!

For now, here is some cool Podcasting news for you...

The Future of PodCasting?

The NPR (National Public Radio) is putting it's faith in the future of Podcasting and is jumping into the medium in a huge way with 130 new podcasts!

From NPR:

"This service is our first step in podcasting and we are experimenting with a number of program formats. Among other considerations, many NPR member stations incorporate local stories as they air national programs; we are currently unable to integrate local and national content into a combined podcast, and thus cannot reflect the radio experience listeners enjoy — and expect — in their individual markets. Additionally, podcasting full-length programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered could be extremely expensive. Over the next several months, NPR and its public radio partners will be experimenting with a number of formats and offerings"

UPDATE:

Just some more info I have come across regarding this topic:

From Media Week:

"The seven non-commercial stations involved with the Web site launch are: KQED San Francisco, Calif., KUT Austin, Tex., KWSU Pullman, Wash. (listed as Northwest Public Radio), WGBH Boston, WNYC New York, WUOM Ann Arbor, Mich. (listed as Great Lakes Radio Consortium), and WXPN Philadelphia.

Individuals who browse the NPR Web site will find a list of 37 provider stations and 130 separate podcast files, which means the current roster of participating stations has grown beyond the original seven."

Or Check out Tony Sanders take on the situation!!
