Lost amid the buzz over the new Intel-powered Apple products at Macworld on Tuesday were several intriguing software updates and a few new gadget tweaks from Apple.

On the software side, Apple chairman Steve Jobs showed off a new application that makes it simpler to produce a podcast. Rolled into the Garage Band music-authoring program of the iLife software suite, the podcast software allows users to easily record their voices, drop in music tracks and then post the podcasts on .Mac - a subscription Web site run by Apple.

Users can include other participants in the podcast using Apple's online chat software.

Analysts generally were impressed with the new software, saying it greatly simplifies the activities that a growing number of computers users undertake.

Apple also announced an FM radio receiver for its iPod, addressing competition from other digital music players that have FM tuners integrated into their design.

Called the iPod Radio Remote, the $49 device plugs into the docking port in the music player via a cord. It combines an FM tuner and buttons like those found on the front of the iPod shuffle, allowing users to control their iPod even if it's stowed in a pocket or backpack. The device works with the nano and the iPod with video.

However, unlike some other digital music players, it doesn't record radio broadcasts directly to the iPod.

Other Interesting Apple News:

Real chipheads may have been amused that Apple's announcement of accelerated use of Intel microprocessors had pushed Apple's stock price to a close of $80.86 on Tuesday.
The 8086 was the numerical designation Intel gave a new microprocessor that was first introduced in 1978.

It was the first in the line of x86 processors that included the Pentium and became the brains of hundreds of millions of personal computers.
