  Citizenship Guarantees Free iPod
Patrick Cooper, the head of applications and data services with the Department of Trade and Industry in the UK, made a tongue-in-cheek suggestion to solve the UK's identity card issues, Tuesday during a technology event hosted by Adobe.

Following an elaborate online fraud sceme that removed over 30 million pounds from the pockets of the UK government, there have been plans to institute a national ID card, with a PIN or password system to dramatically increase security.

Cooper suggests that issuing iPods, retailing for around 139 pounds, which contain a digital certificate would be a more cost-effective option than the ID card sceme which could cost as much as 500 pounds each to implement.

Our Take:

Bravo! We can only hope that every country takes this into consideration.... For the security thing, of course. Anyone know what it takes to become a British citizen, other than being able to drink 5 pints of Guiness before noon? Mmmmmmm, that's almost worth the citizenship right there.

That's just how it is,
